Patiala represents the royal heritage of our country with its delicate blend of modernity with a traditionalist life left behind by rulers such as Mughals, Rajputs and the Punjabi culture.  Patiala came into being during the middle of the eighteenth century when a princely state was established in Punjab’s Malwa region by Baba Ala Singh.

Today, Patiala is a city rich in production of handcrafted goods and dresses. The Patiala type Salwar, a type of loose bottoms authentic to the region is very famous across the country. The hand worked juttis, embroidered shoes for men and women are famous around the world and have a high number of export. The best times to visit the city would be during the winter when the day temperatures are comfortable to look around the various historical sites in the city. Baradari gardens, Gurudwara, Mall road, Sheesh Mahal, Rang Mahal, Bagh Palace are some of the notable tourist places in the city.

Connectvity

Patiala has a railway station serving the city but despite that the city is not well connected to the other major cities in India. Nevertheless, it is very close to the capital city Chandigarh and there are several trains everyday that connect Patiala to the main city and nearby cities in and around Punjab. Patiala is also easily accessible from Delhi which has a direct train plying to Bhatinda with a stop in Patiala.

Cuisine

Patiala, like everywhere else in Punjab, has a rich food culture with wheat, rice and sweets forming the staple diet. Apart from this delicious gravies prepared with an overload of butter and authentic spices are very famous in the region. The tandoori style of cooking, snacks like samosa, cutlet, pakoras, fish food, tikkas and kebabs are very famous here.
