This city is one of the attractive tourist destinations and is situated on the banks of River Chambal. This city was formed in the 12th Century and is a significant part of the Malwa Plateau. The major establishment in this city took place only after this place was taken over by the Rajputs in 1264 AD. This city has a glorious past and a prosperous heritage to its credit.

This city being a cultural hub is visited by tourists round the year. Also, there is the presence of a great number of educational institutions in this city, hence it is frequently visited by students who are pursuing their higher education. Kota’s culture is all about fairs and festivals which are celebrated with great flair. The major festivals here are Gangaur, Dussehra and Diwali. Each year in December, a handicraft Mela is conducted which displays the grandeur of the Rajasthani Paintings and other tribal cultural objects. In the month of February, an industry mela is conducted which gives a fair opportunity to the small business persons to exhibit their products to the people from all walks of life and thus gain more business.
