Located on the banks of Betwa River in the Bundelkhand region of the state of Uttar Pradesh. The city is most famous for the valor and sacrifice of its queen Rani Laxmi Bai during the first freedom struggle of India. It is also known as the Gateway to Bundelkhand and has seen great infrastructure and real estate development in the recent years. The city has various places of tourist attraction, prominent among them being the Jhansi Fort, Rani Mahal, Gangadhar Rao Ki Chhatri and St. Anthony’s Cathedral.

Jhansi has its own division under the North Central Railway Zone.
