Vadodara, formerly named as Baroda is the third largest city of Gujarat

It is a well developed modern city. Baroda is located on the banks of river Vishwamitri and is only 139 kilometers away from Gandhinagar, the capital of the state. Vadodara is a city of kings. It has the lavish Laxmi Vilas Palace which was once the residence of Gaekwad dynasty. It was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III and was completed in the year 1980. The palace houses durbar hall, museum, zoo, a small railway line, art gallery which displays the royal family’s collection etc. Among the collection, one will prominently find the works of famous Indian painter, Raja Ravi Verma. Another attraction of the city is the Annual Garba Festival which is hosted on a very large scale every year. The Shiva Temple is managed by the Indian Army and attracts lots of devotees throughout the year.
