Located in the heart of Rajasthan, Ajmer is its fifth largest town, a picturesque valley surrounded on all sides by the Aravalli range of mountains. The name of the city Ajmer was derived from “Ajay Meru” which locally means the invincible hill. Taragarh, India’s first fort was built her by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the seventh century. Today, Ajmer serves as an important pilgrimage centre both for the Muslims and the Hindus. The Dargah Sharif which is the final lying place of Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti is holy for the Muslims and the place serves as the base place for journey to Pushkar which is considered holy by Hindus, the Pushkar Lake being the abode of Lord Brahma.

Thus Ajmer perfectly symbolizes the Indian culture, ethnicities and co-existence of wide plethora of religion, culture, language and communities.

The Ajmer junction railway station has five platforms and is very important and located in the heart of the city.
