The city is famous for its leather industry and is also one of the most important commercial and industrial centers of India. The city was previously known by the name of Cawnpore and was established in the form a village in 1207 by Raja Kanh Deo<\/a>. The city was one of the battle centers in the revolution of 1857, the first struggle for India\u2019s independence. There are several places of tourist interest in the city including Phool Bagh, Allen Forest Zoo, Ganga Barrage, Dwarkadhish Temple, Jain Glass Temple and Massacre Ghat etc.<\/p>\n

The Kanpur Central railway station is amongst the only five central railway stations in India. The station handles traffic of more than 280 trains per day making it one of the busiest of North Central Railway Zone.
