The most common thing I had heard about Ludhiana was that it is the hub of hosiery and woolen industry in India. So when I reached Ludhaina, I was not expecting a relatively clean city that was fast approaching the threshold of becoming a metropolis.

The lively and colorful Punjabi culture was reflected in every aspect of life of the people of this city which is located in the heart of Punjab. What amazed me most was the variety of food that was readily available at almost every street corner and the sheer number of people enjoying it.

If you are travelling to Ludhiana and want to know about the best places to eat, the following guide can help you.

For Street Food

If you crave for lip smacking chaat, pav bhaji, dosa, noodles and other street food, then head towards the famous Fountain Chowk. There is a separate area assigned to shops serving a wide variety of delicious street food at affordable prices. You can get both vegetarian and non vegetarian snacks at this location. Other popular destinations to enjoy street food in the city are Gill Road and Rani Jhansi Road.

There are a quite a few restaurants and dhabas that offer great vegetarian dishes from not only North Indian and typical Punjabi cuisine but also the South Indian and Chinese platter. Prominent amongst these are Basant on Fountain Chowk, Chawlas Fast Food near Clock Tower, Pandit Paranthewala in Chaura Bazara and various other restaurants located in different parts of the city. You can also enjoy fine dining experience at high end restaurants such as Bistro Flamme Bois in Gurudev Nagar that serves European, Continental, Mexican, Lebanese, Italian, American cuisines or Kitchen At 95 in Hyatt Regency known for serving Mediterranean, Chinese, Continental cuisines.

The city has a large number of restaurants serving different types of non-vegetarian delicacies. The most prominent restaurants that offer great variety of authentic non-vegetarian food in Ludhiana include, Colonel’s Cabin on Pakhowal Road, known for its mutton biryani and chicken masala, Chawal’s which is the inventor of cream chicken and has been serving great non-vegetarian delicacies to patrons or the well known Baba’s Chicken on Gill road that has become a household name amongst non-veg lovers.
